I heard this song while watching ER. I had to find out what it was and what the words were because just listening to the song brought me to tears. You have to go and listen to it on youtube because it is just breath taking.

All alone I didn't like the feeling
All alone I sat and cried
All alone I had to find some meaning
In the center of the pain I felt inside

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave

All alone I heal this heart of sorrow
All alone I raise this child
Flesh and bone, he's just
Bursting towards tomorrow
And his laughter fills my world and wears your smile

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water and a million years gone by

I came across this after having a very tough weekend of "going it alone." I remember this from ER and how beautiful I found it even then. It describes perfectly how I feel. My son, also, wears his dad's smile.

As I spend another Angelversary mark today for my fur-girl, in tears and sorrow, I was just listening to "Sand and Water" (written by Elton John, actually) myself and wanted to also share a couple more of her beautiful, heart-wrenching songs....
I Find Your Love
and
Say Goodnight Not Goodbye

(unfortunately, some of her other musical videos have disappeared now from their site)

This is one of my favorite singer/song writers.
She is no stranger to death and grief as this song was written about the loss of her own husband. She sang this at his funeral.

I have many of her albums and she is just wonderful!
I have this in my collection of 'grief' albums... songs that helped me to express my sadness when there were no words.
